THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT de PAUL - HELPING PEOPLE TO STAY WARM

Our Society receives many requests for assistance - 150 or more a month - and given your generosity, we can meet most needs in some manner.  This time of year, we help with rent payments to avoid eviction and homelessness, security deposit assistance to secure a home, utility bills to avoid disconnect, gas to stay warm for those living in their vehicles, and tents and sleeping bags for those who live outdoors.  We are blessed to have the Knights of Columbus #499 donate new jackets and for the winter clothing drives by the Catholic Daughters and Cathedral School.  We are blessed to be able to minister to our brothers and sisters in need.  We are grateful for your monetary donations, donations of goods and time - and your prayers. Call 715-398-4039. Tax deductible donations can also be mailed to SVDP P.O. Box 98 Superior, WI 54880

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS: Registration for our Sunday morning Religious Education Program (K-5) is still open. Classes began on Sunday, Oct 5th.  Older students (grades 6 – 11) will attend the Cathedral Program on Wednesday evening. Registration can be done through the Cathedral. For further information please call Amanda Marin at the parish office 715-398-7174 weekdays before noon or leave a message with the answering service.

MINISTRY SCHEDULE DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY in progress.  If you know of any weekend(s) that you are unable to serve in your ministry, please call Mary Margaret at the parish office weekdays before noon, or leave a message with the answering service, or email her at mary@stfrancisxavier.us. You can also let Nancy Lund know when you see her at church.  There is always a need for CROSS BEARERS, READERS, SERVERS, COMMUNION MINISTERS, AND USHERS.  Please consider serving your parish family in one (or 2) of these important ministries.  Training is offered.  PLEASE CALL THE PARISH OFFICE BY NOVEMBER 17TH FOR ANY DATE(S) YOU ARE UNAVAILABLE.

Begin now and follow the thirty-three-day pilgrimage of faith with our Lord. Then come to the Immaculate Conception Mass (Monday December 8th at noon) and receive a special blessing for your commitment to Christ. Take a book home and start the journey.

PARISH REGISTRATION:  If you would like to register as a member of our parish, there are registration forms on the table in the gathering space of our church.  As a registered member you will receive the parish bulletin semi-monthly, contribution envelopes as well as other parish mailings.  We look forward to meeting you!

THINKING AHEAD TO THE HOLIDAYS:   Every year the ladies of our altar society as well as the crafters who meet in our parish hall on Wednesdays, prepare gifts for the residents of Dove Health Care (formerly St. Francis Nursing Home).  These ladies are asking for some of the following items:  wheel chair & walker bags, hat & mitten sets, ponchos, shrugs, lap robes, blankets, pillow cases, fidget blankets, greeting cards, stationery, postage stamps, playing cards, and large print crossword and word search books.  If you would like more information, or have other suggestions for the residents, please call Arlene at 218-341-1665.

JOIN THE CHOIR: The choir leads us in song each Sunday, at 10:30 mass. The group practices at 10 am, prior to mass. All are welcome to join. Please talk to Choir Director, Rachel Inselman, for further information.

CSA  NEWS:   The Annual Bishops Appeal (Catholic Service Appeal)  began here the weekend of September 27 – 28. Please be as generous as you can as our appeal this year is $67,773.
