St. Francis Xavier Altar Society Meeting Notes May 1, 2025 

The Altar Society meets the first Thursday of the month in the Parish Hall, September – May. 

Officers: 

Arlene Osterlund – President 

Mary Jo Uhlenkott – Vice President 

Treasurer – Betty Moe 

Secretary – Kathy Johnson 

The May meeting, to end the year, we have a luncheon and baby shower.  Baby shower gifts are donated and given to Lake Superior LifeCare Center.  HeadStart will also be contacted. 

Lunch from Ebert & Gerbert’s was enjoyed before the meeting began. 

The meeting was opened by Arlene with a prayer in honor of the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, celebrated on May 3. 

Secretary’s report was giving by Kathy. Motion was made by Sue Koehler and seconded by Janet Walroos to accept the report. 

Motion carried. 

Treasurer’s report was given by Betty. 

$5,968.33 in checking 

       927.83 in savings 

$6896.16 total 

Our three big fundraisers this year, This ‘n That sale, Cookie Stroll and Salad Bar Luncheon brought in $12,496.61. 

We have donated to the church for various things including furnace repair. 

Motion was made by Janet Le Bard and seconded by Gail Erdman to accept the report. Motion carried. 

Sunshine report was received from Lorie Frink and read by Arlene.  One sympathy card was sent out.  A get-well card was signed by all and sent to Father Jim.  Easter cards were sent out to shut ins and nursing homes.  Many handmade cards were received and used. 

Paulette White uses cards to make beautiful flowers she then donates to care facilities in town.  Please save any card front with flowers on them for her. 

Priest’s assembly wrap up was given by Julie Kaluza.  

49 priests from the Diocese of Superior plus the Bishop attended the dinner provided Sunday April 6.  Breakfast, lunch and snacks were provided on Monday.  Breakfast, snacks and to go containers were provided on Tuesday. 

Many thanks were given to the church and those who prepared and served. 

Next year it was decided we will have more vegetarian options. 

May Elections 

Betty Moe will be handing over the “money bag” to Judy Kuehn.  We thank Betty for her years as treasurer. 

Mary Jo Uhlenkott will continue as Vice President after her interim year. 

These positions are for two years. 

Raffle: This month’s raffle prize was donated by Angel Booth and won by Kathy Johnson and Arlene Osterlund.

Evening Altar Society Meeting 

After a year’s trial with Thursday evening meetings, it was decided to post the meeting notes to the St. Francis webpage in lieu of an extra meeting. All parishioners will now be able to know what we do and join in any events they would like. 

Ideas For Consideration 

Purchase lightweight racks for the dishwasher.  The metal ones are too heavy to lift and move. 

A large bulletin board for the parish hall and garden room.  This will expand on what Janet Le Bard is already doing. 

Displaying the parish photo album Paulette White organizes and different parish events. 

Expanding on the Little Books from the Diocese of Saginaw, Michigan.  Arlene has been purchasing these and putting them in the back of church for parishioners to take. Exampes are ADVENT/CHRISTMAS      LENT/EASTER      CHILDREN VERSIONS 

This ‘n That Sale sign up for item drop off after masses on Sunday May 10 are needed.  Organizing and receiving donations will be Tuesday –Thursday from 9-3:30. Workers welcome. The sale is Friday May 16 & 17.
