ST. FRANCIS PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL met recently. Copies of the minutes are Available on the table in the gathering space of the church.

ST. FRANCIS ALTAR SOCIETY will meet this week on Thursday, February 6th at 1 PM in the Garden Room. The afternoon will include finalizing plans for the upcoming Salad Bar on Saturday. Hostesses for the afternoon are Angel Booth and Marilee Culliton. All ladies of the parish are welcome!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NOTES

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2 Grades K-6 9:15 AM

“SOUPER” BOWL This weekend following all Masses students from our religious education classes will be at each exit of the church to collect donations which will be given to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. This is a national effort. Your donations are appreciated!

BLESSING OF THROATS This weekend following all Masses, Fr. Jim will offer the blessing of

throats in honor of St. Blaise. If you wish to have your throat blessed, gather at the front of the church.

AS WE ENTER THE COLD AND FLU SEASON our parish has made changes to the distribution of Holy Communion to help prevent the spread of illness. The distribution of Holy Communion will be limited to the host alone with only the priest having the chalice. This is a temporary liturgical modification that will be lifted once we are through the cold and flu season.

59TH ANNUAL SALAD BAR LUNCHEON – SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8 – NOON

The menu will feature a variety of homemade salads, hot German potato salad, bread, dessert and a beverage. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-12 and children under age 5 are free. There will be door prizes as well as the annual raffle drawings. If you have not yet received your raffle tickets they will be delivered soon. More tickets are available.

Please note: In the gathering space in the back of church you will find sign-up sheets. Please sign up to bring a salad, prizes, donate a gift card (or 2) or help the day of the luncheon. Salads should be brought to the parish hall the morning of the event between 8 and 10 AM. Thank you! HANDICAPPED PARKING Recently there were handicapped parking signs placed at the 4th Street entrance to the parish hall and church. Also, please be aware that the calendar parking rule has been lifted for the entire block. Special thanks to Angie Harker and Jack Sweeney who made this possible for us.

MINISTRY SCHEDULING MARCH, APRIL & MAY We will begin the ministers within the next two weeks for the months of March, April & May. (Holy Week ministers will be sent under separate cover.) We are always in need of CROSS, CANDLE, GIFT BEARERS, READERS, SERVERS, COMMUNION MINISTERS & USHERS. Training is offered, Please consider serving your parish family in one of more of these areas.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 499 will meet at St. Anthony Parish on Tuesday, February 4th beginning at 6:30 with recitation of the rosary. The business meeting will follow at 7 PM. Anyone interested in becoming a KC is welcome to attend.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

MARDI GRAS CARNIVAL All are invited to join in the fun on Tuesday, February 25th from 5-7 PM in the school gym. Admission and food sales begin at 4:30. Cost is $12 for unlimited wristband if purchased prior to February 21st or $15 at the door. The kitchen will be selling pizza, hot dogs, cookies, water and juice boxes all for a small fee. Come hungry and have fun!

EXPRESSIONS OF DISCIPLESHIP – 2019/20 CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL

If you have not yet responded to the 2019-20 CSA, please set aside a moment to prayerfully consider a gift amount that your means will permit. A total of $39,323 has been pledged from our parishioners. Our parish “fair share” responsibility for the coming year is $51,346. Thank you to all who have already pledged.

SUPERIOR CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP UPCOMING EVENTS:

Registration for Steubenville and Extreme Faith Camp are quickly approaching for summer events.

Extreme Camp Fundraiser on February 21 & 22 at East End Super One.

High School/Young Adult Retreat, adoration and Mass with Fr. Mike Schmitz on March 1st at St. Anthony, Superior.
